Meet Brittany

Discover Counseling was established in 2022 following my observation of individuals being rejected due to not conforming to rigid treatment criteria. I recognize the diverse challenges we encounter as we journey through life, acknowledging that a standardized approach does not suit everyone. It's crucial to extend patience to oneself, celebrating each advancement and embracing the lessons learned from setbacks.

I am deeply committed to assisting teenagers and adults who perceive themselves to be facing challenges in uncovering the underlying reasons behind their struggles and devising a strategic plan to achieve success.

Clients develop the ability to embrace novel experiences and adapt to change, fostering lasting transformations. Staying deeply involved in their therapy, my clients take on an active role as participants, while I serve as their coach and supporter, offering guidance and encouragement throughout their transformative journey.

Approach to Therapy

I tailor my approach to therapy according to the unique requirements of each client, employing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. My specialization lies in utilizing Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) to alleviate the severity of anxiety symptoms experienced by my clients. Additionally, I integrate Cognitive Reframing methods to help clients comprehend the impact of their thoughts on their emotions and actions.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and modifying dysfunctional thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It is based on the premise that our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors, and by changing negative thought patterns, individuals can alleviate emotional distress and improve their functioning. CBT techniques typically involve cognitive restructuring (identifying and challenging negative thoughts), behavior modification (changing unhealthy behaviors), and skill-building exercises to develop coping strategies. CBT is widely used to treat various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, and others.

What is Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)?

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a specific therapeutic technique commonly used in the treatment of anxiety disorders, particularly obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). ERP involves systematically exposing individuals to feared objects, situations, or thoughts (exposure) while preventing them from engaging in their usual compulsive behaviors or rituals (response prevention).

The goal of ERP is to help individuals confront their fears in a controlled and gradual manner, allowing them to experience anxiety without resorting to their usual compulsions. Over time, repeated exposure to feared stimuli without engaging in compulsions helps to reduce anxiety and break the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.

ERP is considered one of the most effective treatments for OCD and has also been adapted for other anxiety disorders, such as phobias and social anxiety disorder. It is typically conducted under the guidance of a trained therapist and may involve creating a hierarchy of feared situations or objects to gradually expose individuals to increasingly challenging stimuli.
